Camping With An Air Bed
By · CommentsMany people miss the comfort of a nice soft bed when they are camping. One way to keep cozy and still enjoy the great outdoors is sleeping on an air mattress. However, there are a few things to remember before leaving home.
- Do you have a power source? Most air bed pumps require power to inflate the bed.
- Is the mattress going to be inside a tent or outside on the ground? If you plan on sleeping outside, be sure and take a tarp to protect the mattress from sharp rocks and sticks.
- Does the mattress have a built in pillow? If not, don’t forget to bring one.
- Flannel sheets can act as a way to protect the mattress and keep your sleeping bag from sliding around during the night.
Avoiding And Repairing Air Mattress Leaks
By · CommentsAn air mattress can be repaired quickly and easily with a patch kit. The LoungAir comes with a patch kit included, so no trip to the bicycle shop is needed.
To avoid problems with an air bed – any make or model – you can take a few precautions. Don’t let kids jump on the mattress, keep sharp items away from the mattress (including cat & dog claws) and putting a protective layer between the mattress and the ground if you are camping will help prolong the life of your air bed.

Preventing SIDS – Sudden Infant Death Syndrome
By · CommentsIt has been stated that air mattresses can help prevent SIDS or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and I wanted to check facts.
While I never found any real specific facts to prove the theory – what is written is that it is believed a firm mattress with few soft pillows or blankets is considered the best way to prevent SIDS.
Here are the recommendations from
US Consumer Product Safety Commission
http://www.cpsc.gov/cpscpub/pubs/5049.html
- Safe Bedding Practices For Infants
- Place baby on his/her back on a firm tight-fitting mattress in a crib that meets current safety standards.
- Remove pillows, quilts, comforters, sheepskins, pillow-like stuffed toys, and other soft products from the crib.
- Consider using a sleeper or other sleep clothing as an alternative to blankets, with no other covering.
- If using a blanket, put baby with feet at the foot of the crib. Tuck a thin blanket around the crib mattress, reaching only as far as the baby’s chest.
- Make sure your baby’s head remains uncovered during sleep.
- Do not place baby on a waterbed, sofa, soft mattress, pillow, or other soft surface to sleep.
Here’s to a safe and restfully night to all children.
